We celebrated the start of something wonderful November 29th 2023 in Macon Georgia. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of the social services for folks who experience developmental disabilities. DSP directly impact folks who experience disabilities daily as a matter of routine. There is nothing routine about the number of social roles we place in the job expectations of DSPs. Unfortunately it has become quite routine to underpay, over expect, and scapegoat the most important professional in folks with disabilities lives. Never fear, some courageous DSPs and a group of ten provider agencies has begun the work on advocating for needs, rights, and the desires of DSPs all over the State or Georgia. This in person meeting of our ambassadors serving on the GA DSP Council, is only the beginning of a new era, where services are valued and those that give their lives to serving others are treated as valued members of the professional they have chosen. A big thank you to Heather Daily and Shae Dotson from Therap Services for presenting on building a successful team. The work has begun!
