The Direct Support Professional (DSPs) Advocacy Council met today at the Gwinnett Campus of UGA, shout out to Michaelyn (Mikey) Wilson, MSW, M.Ed, The Institute on Human Development and Disability/UCEDD ,  for partnering with us and helping make the meeting space a possibility.  The Council DSPs learned from United for Change, Laura Owen, self-advocate and Michelle Schwartz, M.Ed. CCC-Sp. about  Learning where folks want to show up in their community, where they want to advocate for changes so they can take back power taken from them.  Mikey, updated the group on the Training & Assessment Program (DSP TAP).  Mikey, also talked with the group about how they can help provide input for the assessment related to this program, in the future.  The DSP Council is really coming together, partnering with many and starting to take actionable steps to better advocate and support DSPs in the State of Georgia.
